earth from the moonjourney

First of all may we wish you a very happy New Year. 2012 seems to have about it an air of expectancy, probably due to the fact that in seven months’ time the Olympic Games begin. We hope that many things work out well – for our lives, for our church and for our community. We pray and commit the future to Jesus. We have to trust and rest in him, which is always a challenge for us. We journey together through the good times and the times that may prove difficult.
In 1969 Apollo 11 was launched for its epic journey to the moon. The lunar pod was called ‘Eagle’. When the module landed and Armstrong said, “Houston, the eagle has landed”, the reply from Control in Houston was, “You have a bunch of guys about to turn blue, we are breathing again”! Big journeys into the unknown can be heart stopping affairs.
The wise men or Magi journeyed into the west looking for a person. They were trying to find Jesus. They asked in Matthew ch2 v2 “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Those that follow Jesus today are on a journey. Not everything is clear or certain. This is not a journey that will last for a year. We might not have to climb aboard a camel or some other mode of transport and head out west – although both may be true for some. We are called to follow where he leads us and that is the journey of a lifetime. Let us journey together and cheer one another on and encourage each other on the way!
